Our Story

For over 15 years, Sunrise Services has been working tirelessly to provide services for individuals in need. Those we feel are underserved in our communities continues to drive us to this day. We owe our vision and our passion to the leadership energy of our founders, Gene and Sue Closser. In the mid-1970s Sue and Gene worked at an institution in Colorado. They believed there was a better way to provide care, and sought to open a care facility for people with disabilities in order to provide them with the lives they deserved. They moved to Washington state, and on their wedding anniversary in 1977, Sue and Gene took over three group homes. And thus began a long, storied career of working to care for people with disabilities, seniors in need of care, and individuals living with mental health challenges.
